Do you wonder, what is happening in our world today that even our kids going to school arent safe?

How is it that education and the opportunity afforded to our future, is less than safe?

Jan. 16, 2008: As students are being dismissed early from school, one is wounded in the shoulder after being shot in the parking lot of Crossroads Charter High School in Charlotte, N.C.

Feb. 4, 2008: In Memphis's Hamilton High School, a 16-year-old student is shot in the leg during an argument with another student over music.

Feb. 7, 2008: In Portsmouth, Ohio, a small community in southern Ohio near the Kentucky border, a man shoots his estranged wife at the Notre Dame Elementary School.

Feb. 8, 2008: A nursing student shoots two women and then herself in a classroom at Louisiana Technical College, outside Baton Rouge.

Feb. 11, 2008: In Memphis, a 19-year-old senior is shot in his school's gym by a 17-year-old sophomore, following a feud that started off campus earlier in the week; after the shooting, the suspect hands his gun to a coach, saying, "It's over now."

Feb 12, 2008: In Oxnard, Calif., a 14-year-old shoots a 15-year-old classmate, who later dies of his injuries. Law enforcement cites "bad blood" between the teens.

Feb. 14, 2008: A 27-year-old man goes on a rampage at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, shooting 21 people, killing five and later himself; university police report that the suspect, a graduate of the school, had reportedly stopped taking medication and had been acting "somewhat erratic."

THIS IS JUST 2008!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What in the hell is happening?

I dont like you so Im going to come to school and shoot you????

Ok... Virginia Tech...

23-year-old Seung Hui Cho was a danger to himself and the campus community. Cho killed 32 people and wounded dozens more before turning a gun on himself.

Does changing gun control laws make us safer? I dont think so. I think that all the people who have committed these crimes, gave some sort of evidence that they were beginning to crack. Granted we cant catch everyone or everything, but we can be more aware of the people around us.

It would be too much to say.. "yes, my son is actting homicidal, I should alert the police.. " we would be labeled as paranoid and the police would never get rest.

Instead, talk to your kids. Let them know its ok to talk to you about things they're feeling bad about. Try to understand that kids, teens and young adults have a hard time dealing with changes going on in their life. Acceptance and individuality are at the forefront of their needs.

Open up to your kids. It will make it easier for them to open up to you
